Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure designed to enhance the size and shape of a women’s breast.

                       The surgery is often considered for a number of reasons:

• To enhance the body contour of a woman who, for personal reasons, feels her breast size is too small.
• To correct a reduction in breast volume after pregnancy
• To balance a difference in breast size
• As a reconstructive technique following breast surgery.

                By inserting an implant behind each breast, Dr. Taylor is able to increase a woman’s bustline by one or more bra cup sizes.

                Breast augmentation can enhance your appearance and your self-confidence, but it won’t necessarily change your looks to match your ideal, or cause other people to treat you differently. At the time of your consultation appointment with Dr. Taylor, he will be happy to discuss with you your objectives and expectations.

                Breast implants are made of a silicone shell, filled with either silicone gel or a salt-water solution known as saline. Because of concerns that there is insufficient information demonstrating the safety of silicone gel-filled breast implants, the Food and Drug Administration has determined that new gel-filled implants, at the present time, should be available only to women participating in approved studies. Saline-filled implants continue to be available on an unrestricted basis, pending further FDA review.

                Dr. Taylor performs all his breast augmentation surgery in the hospital, using general anesthesia, so you will be asleep during the entire operation. The surgery is typically done on an out patient basis, so an overnight stay in the hospital will not be required.

                The method of inserting and positioning your implant will depend on your anatomy. The incision can be made either in the crease where the breast meets the chest, around the areola (the dark skin surrounding the nipple), or in the armpit. Every effort is made to ensure that the incision is placed so resulting scars will be inconspicuous as possible.

                The healing time varies from person to person. The first few days are the most uncomfortable and require limited activity and arm movement, as well as wearing special dressing or clothing. Normally after a few days, activity can be resumed to a limited degree. Most can return to work, if it is not too strenuous and does not require a lot of arm movement, within 5-10 days. Most normal activities can be returned to 3-6 weeks after the surgery.

                The total cost of a breast augmentation, including the hospital, anesthesia, implant, and surgical fees is approximately $4,800- 5,200.00.
