Women with very large pendulous breasts may experience a variety of medical problems caused by the excessive weight - from back and neck pain and skin irritation to skeletal deformities and breathing problems. Bra straps may leave indentations in the shoulders. And unusually large breasts can make a woman-or teenage girl- feel extremely self-conscious.

lp-breastreduc-pic1.jpg (6216 bytes)             Breast reduction is a surgical procedure designed for such women. The procedure removes fat, glandular tissue, and skin from the breasts, making them smaller and lighter It can also reduce the size of the areola, the darker skin surrounding the nipple. The goal is to give the women smaller, better-shaped breasts in proportion with the rest of her body.

Generally, Dr. Taylor does not perform breast reduction surgery until the breast is fully developed, however, it can be done earlier if large breasts are causing serious discomfort. The best candidates are those who are mature enough to understand fully the procedure and have realistic expectations about the results. Breast reduction is not recommended for women who intend to breast-feed.

Dr. Taylor will be glad to discuss your needs, objectives and expectations with you at a consultation appointment.

Breast reduction surgery is generally done in the hospital as an inpatient procedure. The surgery takes two to four hours, but may take longer in some cases. You can expect to remain in the hospital two to three days.

Breast reduction is performed under general anesthesia. You’ll be asleep through the entire operation.

Following your release from the hospital, you will be up and around after a day or two. Your breasts will continue to be tender and ache for a couple of weeks. Most women can return to work (if its not too strenuous) and social activities in about two weeks.

Breast reduction is occasionally covered to a limited degree by medical insurance. Prior approval has to be obtained. The cost for the surgery is at least $ 4,800.-5,500.00. and can be more, depending on the hospital charges.
