The procedure can frequently be done in the office or an outpatient surgery center under local anesthetic. Following the cleaning of the area and injection of the anesthetic, the surgery is performed. Special shields have to be placed over the eyes to cover them to protect against the laser. The laser is used with other instruments to perform the surgery. Because the laser seals the blood vessels when it touches them, there is less swelling, bruising, and bleeding than with traditional blepharoplasty, which helps reduce healing time. After the surgery the upper eyelids and occasionally, the lower eyelids have some sutures for a few days. The amount of discoloration and swelling varies from person to person, but usually most of the swelling is gone in 4-7 days. Patients usually can return to work with makeup in 5-10 days. Although there can be a rapid change in vision and appearance with surgery, the final result develops over the next 8-12 weeks. Laser eyelid surgery costs from $2,400.- 2,850.00. |
