  • From Botox to Vitamin Shots: How Stars Get Ready for Oscar Night

Ever wonder how celebrities manage to look so flawless come Oscar night? Let’s just say a fresh manicure and a swipe of lipstick doesn’t quite cut it. A recent article in the New York Daily News reveals that months of preparation go into big events like the Oscars. Treatments like laser hair removal and professional teeth whitening are common, as are Botox, chemical peels and vitamin shots. Regardless of which treatment they choose, there’s one thing all stars can count on: It’s a long road to the requisite red-carpet glam!

Curious how stars got ready for this year’s Oscar night? Then read on.

    Vitamin Shots and IV Drips

Stars are obsessed with the jolt of energy they get from vitamin B12 injections. They’re a perfect boost before a big night like the Oscars, giving stars more energy and mental clarity. In addition to being energy boosters, vitamin B12 shots are also thought to be a hangover cure. It reportedly helps break down alcohol, and is therefore ideal for party animals like Madonna and Rihanna.

    Teeth Whitening

Guess what? Those pearly whites you see on the screen aren’t natural! Stars usually get professional teeth whitening treatments a few days before major events, according to Dr. Bill Dorfman, a celebrity dentist in Los Angeles. Dorfman recommends Philips Zoom treatments, which whiten teeth in just one sitting, and take less than an hour. The treatment ranges from $200 to $500, depending on the dentist.

    Laser Hair Removal

Stars in skin-baring dresses won’t risk the camera catching any stubble, so most turn to laser hair removal months before the awards show. In fact, it’s usually the first cosmetic procedure stars get. Because new devices are almost painless and superfast, more and more stars are opting to remove absolutely all their body hair. It takes at least four treatments for hair to disappear permanently, and skin takes a day or two to recover. Prices per treatment start at $250

    Microdermabrasion and Peels

It’s pretty obvious: makeup isn’t enough to make stars glow on the red carpet. Celebrity facialist Joanna Vargas, who works with Rachel Weisz and Sofia Coppola, recommends peels and microdermabrasion, too. Varges’ most popular peel is the power peel, which starts with a diamond peel microdermabrasion and finishes with a blast of oxygen to rejuvenate the skin. During this facial, she also uses an electric current to drain puffiness, tone muscle, and tighten skin. Actresses Emma Stone and Michelle Williams opt for this peel before hitting the red carpet.

    Botox and Fillers

It’s no secret that aging stars love Botox for smoothing skin and vanishing wrinkles, and injectable fillers help plump up lips and cheeks. These treatments are especially important before awards shows, where celebrities are examined under the media’s magnifying glass. It’s recommended that stars get the treatments at least a month before a big night like the Oscars. It’s so effective that Gwyneth Paltrow, Sharon Osbourne, Jennie Garth, and Courtney Cox have all admitted to using Botox.
