Lauren: Hi. Thank you for trusting LaserAway with your hair removal needs. We’re excited to welcome you to Team No Fuzz. To ensure that you have an amazing experience, we’re going to walk you through all your pre-care instructions as well as what to expect during your actual treatment. Here at LaserAway, we use the Cynosure Apogee Elite, which is one of the safest and most effective lasers on the market. I’ll let Dr. Kirby, one of our medical directors, take it from here.
Dr. Kirby: In order to get the most effective response from your laser hair treatment, we ask that you simply follow these instructions. One, please avoid the sun for at least 10 days before your treatment. Also, incidental sun, tanning beds, those are no-nos as well. Bronzers, self-tanners, stay away from that and any creams or lotions that contain light-reflecting particles. That’s not good for you either.
Number two, no plucking or waxing for at least 14 days prior to your treatment. See, we need that follicle and the bulb to be present so that we can destroy them. If you rip them out or pull them out, they’re not going to be present for us.
Number three, shaving, we want you to shave. We want you to shave the day of your treatment prior to receiving treatment. So give yourself a few hours lead time and gently shave that area to be treated.
Number four, for facial hair, please avoid over-the-counter and prescription acne and anti-aging products, such as Retinol or retinoids. They can predispose you to irritation.
And lastly, if you’ve started antibiotics recently, just let us know. We may have to reschedule your appointment.
Tara: Hi, I’m Tara and I’ve been getting laser hair removal at LaserAway for the past six months. I just wanted to answer a few of our most popular frequently asked questions for those of you about to get the treatments and what to expect.
Question one, what does it feel like and does it hurt? Everybody has a different pain threshold, so it depends on the area you’re actually treating. So bikini might be more sensitive than underarms, for example, to me, I don’t feel any pain. I feel the cold air from the laser and just maybe a tiny little zap, but there’s no pain involved.
Question two, how long does laser hair removal take? It takes me about 5 to 15 minutes to get my underarms and bikini done. With some people, it can take up to 45 minutes to do their legs. Either way, not so different from getting a haircut or your nails done.
Question three, how effective is laser hair removal? Patients can expect 10 to 15% hair reduction each session. For me personally, I was shaving every day prior to treatments. And after two sessions, I went down to shaving twice a week. But it does vary person to person. This means after completing all your laser hair removal treatments, you’re going to have to find something to do with all that spare time from not shaving anymore. May we suggest something that involves a bikini or some swim trunks.
Lauren: If you have any questions at all prior to your treatment, please feel free to give us a call. We’re here to guide you on your journey to hairless bliss.
