  • How to Prepare for a VelaShape Treatment

Want to know more about VelaShape?

We’re here to tell you everything you need to know about this innovative treatment, including how it works, how to prepare for your first session, what to expect during the procedure, and how to follow the aftercare instructions.

What Is VelaShape? How Does It Work?

VelaShape is the only FDA-cleared device that effectively and safely contours, shapes and slims the body by reducing cellulite and firming problem areas. VelaShape achieves amazing results in as little as four treatments using four different components—bipolar radio frequencies, infrared light, vacuum, and mechanical massage–to effectively combat cellulite and reshape the body.

How does VelaShape work its magic? It’s simple, really. VelaShape heats dermal and hypodermal tissue in the treatment site using infrared light and radiofrequency technologies, stimulating fat cell metabolism and reducing fat cell number and size. Dimples are simultaneously smoothed out using VelaShape’s vacuum suction technology, which stretches fibrous bands in the epidermis. These two processes banish cellulite. What’s more, VelaShape’s mechanical rollers gently knead the area, increasing circulation throughout the treatment site. This encourages lymphatic drainage, expelling harmful fat cell byproducts and toxins. The result? A significant reduction in the appearance of cellulite as well as circumferential reduction, and smoother, firmer skin.

How to Prepare for Your First Session

Prior to your first VelaShape session, the areas to be treated should be cleaned. Be sure to also wear a thong or disposable paper underwear, since the treatment primarily targets your thighs, hips, and buttocks. Additionally, you’ll want to shave any hair in the treatment area the day before your procedure, and avoid waxing or other procedures that irritate the skin at least seven days prior to treatment. If possible, you’ll also want to use an exfoliating body wash the day before your treatment to remove loose skin particles. One week before your treatment, too, avoid aspirin, Plavix or any other blood thinners to reduce the risk of bruising.

What to Expect During the Session

So what happens exactly during a VelaShape treatment? First, you’ll be asked to lie down on a table, and one of our medical professionals will apply a lotion-type spray to the treatment area. The VelaShape machine will then be gently placed on the skin, and you’ll generally feel a persistent rolling massage sensation that slowly begins to heat up. Slight pressure will then be applied to the area while the skin is being massaged. Most people agree that the procedure is relatively painless – in fact, many compare it to a warm, relaxing deep tissue massage. And it’s relatively short too. Depending on the area being treated, VelaShape sessions typically last between 20 and 40 minutes.

Afterward, the treated area may feel slightly warm and tender for a few hours. You might experience mild bruising and redness, but this usually goes away after a few days. In rarer instances, scabbing or blistering can occur in people with very loose skin.
To reap all of VelaShape’s benefits, you should undergo six treatments at one-week intervals. After the initial series of treatments, most medical professionals recommend monthly maintenance treatments for the first three months, followed by regular treatments every three months thereafter.

    Post-Care Instructions

One of the reasons why so many clients choose VelaShape over other procedures is because there is no downtime involved. You can immediately resume all activities. However, you might notice that your skin feels a little tighter after a VelaShape session, and you may experience some temporary, mild side effects, such as tenderness, slight redness, and bruising.
After receiving a series of VelaShape treatments, you’re encouraged to have monthly maintenance treatments done for the first three months, and then maintenance treatments are done periodically. Your results will also last longer if you follow a balanced diet and exercise regularly. This means:

    • Drinking eight glasses or more of water each day
    • Avoiding refined carbs and sugars
    • Engaging in cardio exercise at least 30 minutes a day
    • Eating whole grains, lean proteins, fruits, and vegetables
    • Limiting salt, caffeine, and alcohol
