Hair Removal Benefits

Woman about to receive laser haire removal procedure in Scottsdale

Laser hair removal is faster, gentler, and safer than electrolysis. In electrolysis, a follicle is made inactive by an electric charge delivered by a sterile needle placed in it. It proceeds one hair at a time, which isn’t great for large areas. Laser hair removal may be fast, but you still have to give it time. For laser hair removal to work, a hair must be growing. You’ll usually see results after four-to-six treatments. Your skin should shed all the targeted hairs in six-to-eight weeks.

Laser hair removal is:

  • Non-invasive and non-surgical
  • Selective, targeting dark, coarse hair while sparing the surrounding skin
  • Fast, each laser pulse lasting a fraction of a second
  • Toning and conditioning, leaving you with softer, smoother skin
  • Comprehensive in its ability to target large areas of hair

*Results and patient experience may vary.

About The Experience

A laser hair removal session can last anywhere from a few minutes to several hours, depending on the size of the area treated. Before the session, you’ll be given protective eye gear and, if you want it, a topical anesthetic. Once the session begins, you’ll feel a stinging sensation. You’ll know then that the laser is active. You may feel a prickling and burning sensation. But don’t worry; it isn’t bad at all.

After your laser hair removal session, you may see some swelling and redness. These are temporary and likely won’t keep you from resuming your normal activities. However, you must avoid direct sun exposure. And you should also wear high-SPF sunblock for several weeks afterwards. Rare complications include blisters, swelling, redness, and scarring. Even more rare complications are permanent scarring or changes in skin color.

There’s also a few things you need to do before and after your appointment to ensure safety and effectiveness.

The Technology

Cynosure Laser Hair Removal Machine

Our laser hair removal works on nearly all skin types and tones. Two challenges are red and gray hair. They are difficult to distinguish from surrounding tissue. Our Nd:YAG laser works best if you have darker skin and hair. It has a longer wavelength, and is highly sensitive to all skin colors and pigments. This means it can more precisely penetrate hair follicles with no effect on surrounding tissue. You should know that with darker skin comes a higher risk of complications, such as hypo pigmentation, keloid scarring, and folliculitis.
