How To Get The Most Out Of Juvéderm Treatments

Juvéderm can transform your looks. Why? Because it’s a revolutionary new dermal filler that instantly banishes fine lines and wrinkles for up to one year. It’s safe and effective, non-invasive, and offers natural-looking results. And if you’re looking to fill in your cheeks, there’s a new product called Juvéderm Voluma XC that produces results that are just as amazing.

We’re here to give you the lowdown on Juvéderm and Juvéderm Voluma XC. We’ll tell you how both products work, who’s the right candidate for treatment, what to expect, and how you can get the most from your Juvéderm treatments.

Juvéderm Can Turn Back Time

Juvéderm reverses the aging process. How? Juvéderm and Juvéderm Voluma XC are both comprised of a smooth hyaluronic acid gel that, when injected into the skin, smooths wrinkles and folds and even fills out cheeks. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring molecule found in the human body. Its primary function is to bind and absorb water, creating volume in the face. During the natural aging process, hyaluronic acid found in the body diminishes. The result? Those annoying lines, folds, and hollowed cheeks. Juvéderm corrects this by restoring hyaluronic acid in the skin, helping to diminish the appearance of wrinkles and folds. Juvéderm Voluma XC helps to fill in sunken cheeks.

Juvéderm and Juvéderm Voluma XC are superior products. They excel in both consistency and results. A dermal filler like Restylane typically lasts six to nine months. Juvéderm, meanwhile, often lasts up to 12 months! It looks more natural too because it’s a smoother compound than Restylane. Juvéderm also boasts a higher concentration of the active product hyaluronic acid, which produces smoother, more natural-looking results that last longer.  And if that weren’t enough, Juvéderm is the first FDA-approved hyaluronic acid dermal filler that has proven its safety and effectiveness in persons of color. Clinical studies using Juvéderm showed no increased risk of hyperpigmentation or hypertrophic scarring in darker skin tones, meaning Juvéderm is right for almost everyone!

Who Is a Good Candidate for Juvéderm Treatments?

You, most likely! Juvéderm is safe and effective on pretty much all skin types and tones. It’s an especially good choice for people who have tried collagen injections in the past but didn’t get the results they wanted. Indeed, Juvéderm has many uses. It’s great for facial contouring and can improve the appearance of scars. It can also enhance the size and shape of lips! You’re an ideal candidate for Juvéderm and/or Juvéderm Voluma XC if you have facial lines, wrinkles, creases and folds; acne and surgical scars; sunken areas around the cheeks; and thick or aging lips.

There are some people who aren’t right for Juvéderm and/or Juvéderm Voluma XC. This includes people who are allergic to injected local aesthetics, are nursing or pregnant, or taking antibiotics, heart medication and other drugs. If you have severe allergies or scarring, thin or loose skin, and/or have certain diseases, you might not be a good candidate for Juvéderm and/or Juvéderm Voluma XC.

What’s a Juvéderm Treatment Like?

Before applying the Juvéderm injections, the physician will mark strategic points on your face as guides to the appropriate injection sites for the filler. Then he or she will clean the injection sites with antibacterial soap and administer a topical anesthetic to numb the area. The actual injections take only a few minutes. Afterward, the physician will clean all the marks and apply an ice pack to the treatment site. It’s important that you don’t apply pressure to the treated areas as this could result in the displacement of the Juvéderm filler.

Juvéderm and Juvéderm Voluma XC let you continue to lead an active life. Both require no downtime. That being said, you can expect to experience mild swelling and bruising. But even this normally fades after a few days. Although Juvéderm is generally well tolerated by most people, some side effects may still occur. You might experience redness, pain or tenderness, unusual firmness, swelling, lumps, bruising, itching, infection and discoloration at the injection site.

Allergy testing is not required prior to a Juvéderm treatment because hyaluronic acid fillers are generally biocompatible.

Get the Most from Your Juvéderm Treatments

If you want to get the most out of your Juvéderm and Juvéderm Voluma XC treatments, it all begins with properly preparing for your treatments.

Pre-Treatment Preparation

  • Don’t take over-the-counter drugs and supplements like aspirin, vitamin E, ginger, ginkgo, and garlic for ten to fourteen days prior to your treatment. These drugs and herbs may cause excessive bleeding or bruising.
  • Don’t wear any cosmetics when you go for your treatment.

Post-Treatment Care

  • Stay away from excessive heat like saunas, hot showers, and the sun. Why? Because exposure to heat might cause the blood vessels to dilate, resulting in more bleeding and bruising.
  • Don’t exercise immediately after the treatment.
  • Avoid direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time. If you must go out in the sun, wear sunblock. Failure to do so may cause permanent discoloration after bruising.
  • Don’t drink alcohol for 24 hours after treatment.
  • Avoid taking OTC drugs and supplements like Advil, vitamin E, ginger, ginseng, and garlic for two weeks after the procedure.
  • If you’re experiencing swelling and bruising, you should apply cold compresses to the treatment site.
  • To prevent bruising, try taking arnica montana pills. These are found in most health food stores.
  • Don’t worry if you see any needle sticks after the procedure. This usually goes away in a few hours.

In addition to following these pre- and post-treatment tips, you should also religiously follow an anti-aging skin care regimen. This includes:

Using gentle cleansers. The older your skin is, the more you should use cleansers that are fragrance-free, contain emollients, and are gentle. Why? Because gentle cleansers remove dirt and makeup without stripping away natural oils. Look for cleansers that contain extracts like aloe and chamomile, which help skin retain moisture.

Slathering on anti-aging moisturizers. Look for heavy-duty moisturizers that contain hefty doses of antioxidants like vitamins C and E, green and white tea, and idebenone. Antioxidants actually neutralize free radicals, helping to prevent skin from aging even more.

Using serums on top of moisturizers. Anti-aging serums, much like moisturizers, contain powerful antioxidants that fight free radicals. A lot of them are also silicone-based, which means that serums help to seal in skin’s moisture. Because serums contain high amounts of silicone, they act like a primer, filling in fine lines. The result? Younger looking skin!

Taking supplements. Beauty doesn’t just begin on the outside; it also starts from within! You should take omega-3 supplements. Why? Because they’re great for your immune system, assist in the repair, and defend against cell damage. You should also add in vitamin C and a broad spectrum multivitamin.

Applying retinoids at night. Retinoids, derived from vitamin A, help with cell turnover. They diminish fine lines and lighten brown spots, too. You should exfoliate your skin at least once a week to aid in cell turnover. Exfoliating regularly will help improve your skin texture, tone, and evenness.

Wearing sunblock. If you don’t already wear sunblock every single day, you should! Sun exposure is the number one cause of premature aging. Before you go outside, be sure to wear a daily moisturizer containing sunblock. If you’re worried that using sunblock might clog your pores, many oil-free sunblocks are now available on the market!

Expect Results with Juvéderm and Juvéderm Voluma XC

Juvéderm produces immediate results, and these results continue to improve for one to two weeks as Juvéderm softens and draws moisture into the area. And you can expect these results to last up to 12 months. In fact, Juvéderm is proud to be the only FDA-approved hyaluronic acid filler to last up to one year with only one treatment.

And there’s even more good news: Juvéderm Voluma XC results last up to two years with optimal treatment.
