The Top 7 Questions About Lip Fillers Answered

Lip filler 101

Lip augmentation is a popular cosmetic treatment, and it’s not hard to see why. Many opt for lip fillers because they are an easy, quick, minimally invasive, and temporary way to enhance the shape of lips. But when it comes to getting lip fillers, there are a few things to consider. We are here to answer the most popular questions about lip injections to help you make an informed decision.

1. What kinds of lip fillers are available?

Tons of different types of lip fillers exist on the market, including permanent, semi-permanent, and temporary fillers. At LaserAway, we only use temporary lip fillers that are hyaluronic acid-based, such as Juvéderm Ultra XC and Revanesse LIPS+. Hyaluronic acid is a substance naturally found in the body that can hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water. For that reason alone, it’s a fabulous substance for lips.

2. How long do fillers last?

On average, Juvéderm Ultra XC and Revanesse LIPS+ last up to 12 months, but results vary based on which formulation you choose and how much of the syringe you use.

3. How big can I make my lips?

We recommend gradually increasing your lips’ size over time for natural-looking results. Since you’ll probably experience some swelling after getting your lips injected with filler, you’ll need to give your lips time to adjust to the newly placed volume before assessing them.

4. What are the side effects I can expect?

Common side effects include mild swelling and bruising at the injection site. Don’t be concerned if the treated area appears swollen for three to seven days. The product will be settled two weeks after your treatment, and the treated area will feel softer yet still look full.

5: Do lip fillers hurt?

Most patients tolerate lip injections well with minimal discomfort. Juvéderm and Revanesse formulations are infused with lidocaine, an anesthetic that will help mitigate discomfort once injected. And if you’re extra concerned, you can request a topical anesthetic from one of our clinicians before your injection.

6. When will I see results?

You’ll notice fuller lips immediately after your treatment, and the results keep improving until the product fully settles in after about two weeks.

7. How do I prepare for my appointment?

24 hours before your appointment, you should avoid alcoholic beverages to decrease your chances of bruising. Eat a full, nutritious meal—and avoid caffeine—before your appointment to decrease your chances of feeling dizzy or lightheaded during the treatment.
