How To Thin Out Eyebrows?

Can I Thin Out My Eyebrows?

Short answer? Yes—but it’s complicated.

We all know that facial hair, including thick eyebrows, can require tedious maintenance. Usually, when women want to permanently thin their eyebrows, they either opt for laser hair removal or electrolysis. Both treatments have their pros and cons.

ELECTROLYSIS? NOT THE BEST CHOICE

Electrolysis: it’s a procedure that individually removes hair from the face or body using heat energy. After a very fine probe is inserted into the hair follicle, the hair is then removed with tweezers. Unfortunately, because electrolysis targets each hair individually, it is super time-consuming, so be prepared for half-hour to hour-long sessions. And its cons don’t stop there – you’ll need anywhere from 15 to 30 sessions to get the best results! Electrolysis is said to be considerably painful, described as a stinging and pricking sensation. Ouch! On the plus side, electrolysis can be used on anyone regardless of their skin or hair color, because it targets the hair follicle itself, and not hair pigment.

EYEBROW LASER HAIR REMOVAL: THE BEST WAY TO GO!

Laser hair removal is a little more complex than electrolysis. It uses laser light pulses that selectively destroy hair follicles by targeting the melanin in them. The follicle’s pigment absorbs the laser’s light pulse, damaging the follicle enough to significantly slow down hair regrowth. Since the lasers target melanin, patients with coarse, dark hair and light skin combinations tend to respond best to treatment.

Laser hair removal has several advantages over electrolysis. Because it doesn’t manually target each individual hair follicle, it’s a lot faster. Sessions will take less than fifteen minutes, and you’ll only need about six to eight sessions total for optimal results and about ten to twelve sessions for facial hair. Plus, many women comment that laser hair removal isn’t as painful as electrolysis, comparing the sensation to a rubber band being snapped against your skin.

READY TO THIN YOUR EYEBROWS? HERE’S WHAT TO EXPECT

Note: At LaserAway, the only eyebrow area we treat is the center brow—that’s the area between both eyebrows, commonly referred to as the “unibrow”. We don’t treat the area underneath the eyebrow.

The length of a laser hair removal procedure depends on the size of the treatment area, so typically a session can last anywhere from a few minutes to an hour. But if you’re only getting the hair on your eyebrows treated, it won’t take very long at all!

Before the actual laser hair removal session, you’ll be given protective eye gear, and once the session begins, the nurse will test the laser on your skin to get you used to the sensation.

After the laser hair removal session is over, you may experience temporary swelling and redness. Most clients can resume their normal activities, however, it is of utmost importance that you avoid direct sun exposure. We highly recommend that you wear sunblock with a high SPF for several weeks afterward.

SAY GOODBYE TO UNWANTED EYEBROW HAIR… FOR GOOD!

There’s no question that laser hair removal works. It’s the preferred way to remove eyebrow hair because it’s safer and more permanent than other methods such as waxing, plucking, shaving, and especially electrolysis.

Laser hair removal is so effective that most clients experience permanent hair loss after an average of six to eight sessions. Keep in mind that the reason you’ll have to undergo multiple laser hair removal sessions to obtain maximum results is because only hair in the anagen—or active—stage of hair growth can be successfully treated. The process requires patience, but the results are well worth it.
